All the Summer Girls – Meg Donahue (Week 5: 6/15-6/21)

So here we are- five weeks into summer and this project and my enjoyment of flimsy beach reads comes out. I’m not ashamed per se- I just fancy myself more of an intellectual reader than that. But the secret is out and given some of what is still on my Amazon wish list, I imagine this won’t be the last time. It was also a nice break from the density that was Freakonomics.

To be super honest, it’s the kind of book that makes me feel as though I could be published too. There’s not a lot to say about it. It’s a book about three high school friends who reunite for a weekend on the Jersey Shore after each facing a life altering event/series of events. They’d spent many summers there as children and decide to come from their various cities and lives to reminisce and overcome. It was fine- no more, no less. I don’t feel less smart for having read it but I am certainly not giving it my highest recommendation.

Absolutely nothing stood out to me either way- I had no highlighted quotes, no super memorable moments. It was just fine and quick and easy. I almost feel like I cheated a bit…I’ll need to do some reevaluation of my wish list for the coming weeks!

You’ll like this if: you like pretty much any other book with a cover featuring three women on the beach. It is no more than or less than a super quick read that is equally as enjoyable as it is forgettable- perfect for a day out by the pool or in the sand.

Happy reading!
