This felt a little more like a summer reading book than last week’s Missoula. (Not necessarily a bad thing.)
I don’t remember who recommended this book to me, but I’m pretty sure that’s how it ended up on my wish list. It’s not necessarily a book I’d have jumped to read based on the description alone, but I have to admit- it was a nice break from some heavy stuff. I enjoy some of the “beachier” reads but have admittedly been a little reluctant to add them to the carlyreads list as I become more aware of the quality of books I am reading.
The book was, as promised, full of cliquey drama based on a weekend away. Now, perhaps I could appreciate it more if I was a Manhattan mother (as many of the characters are), but there is plenty of the same hierarchical drama points that you’d find in really any book about group dynamics. (And, unfortunately, about women in these groups in general.)
And that’s kind of all there is to it. There are a lot of characters, a lot of plot points and a lot to keep track of, but I’ve certainly read both more and less worthwhile books. Not going to be jumping to recommend this to anyone, but a good beach read.
You’ll like this if: you want something a little mindless to read on the beach or if you’re a Manhattan mama tired of the drama (probably).
Happy reading!
