carlyreset

0916-jacqueline-kennedy-book_full_600Hi friends-

It’s been a little while since I last posted! Since my last post, a few things have happened- I’ve changed jobs, traveled twice out of the country and a whole lot more domestically, Leo won an Oscar, I’ve eaten approximately 100 times my body weight in noodles, Tina and Amy put out a movie I didn’t see, I did see the Islanders at their new (but hopefully temporary) home, I made exercise goals that I definitely didn’t follow through on, I ordered a billion things online, I’ve tried to get celebrities’ attention on Twitter and I’ve eaten pizza whenever possible.

And through it all, I’ve been reading. I promise that the reading didn’t fall by the wayside in the meantime, even though I haven’t been posting. Throughout the past year and a half, I felt with some frequency like I was reading for an end goal and missed out a little on the reading for reading’s sake. I’ve talked before how it can be frustrating to feel like I am constantly on a deadline and I started to become resentful of all the reading I felt like I “had” to do.

But at the same time, I find it comforting to have a constant, even if it’s a constant I sometimes find annoying. I didn’t want to stop reading- I liked being able to pull out my Kindle on the metro or before getting out of bed in the morning. The break I needed was the external one, so I took a little break from posting. I’ve still been writing, just not super coherently or anything I wanted to put on the internet. It’s been interesting and fun to go back and see what some of my personal thoughts were at the time I was reading some of these books now that I know how things turn out (for now).

So here’s the carlyreads reset game plan:

  1. I am going to start posting one post a day with the posts I’m behind on, starting tomorrow. I won’t backdate anything (though I’ll still let you know when I read the book) but also don’t want to overwhelm inboxes/Instagram feeds.
  2. I’m making a more concerted effort to share quick reads on Twitter– find me at @carlyreadsblog and I can promise you at least one link per day of something interesting I’ve come across.
  3. When I’m all caught up, posts will go back to once a week on Sundays, with guest posts thrown in there as well. I have a couple in the queue, but always interested in taking submissions (you know who you are…)
  4. Once I’m all caught up, I am planning to debut another project that I’m really, really excited about. I’ll be doing that one in addition to carlyreads, but it’s a different set of goals. I know, I know- I totally bailed on this blog for four-ish months, and yes, this was technically a new years resolution but sometimes the new year starts in April and that’s okay too.
  5. I don’t like lists that aren’t an odd number, so I don’t have a lot to say here. Check out this video link, I guess.

Happy reading- see you a lot in the next few weeks!
