two years later

It’s been two years since I’ve posted here with any consistency.

Back in May, I got an email from WordPress – my domain was going to be renewed in a few weeks, was that okay with me? I was sad to realize I’d completely forgotten my password. I was tempted to take it as a sign to be done with it forever. But if you know me (and if you’re reading this, I bet you do), you probably know that I can be pretty bad at letting things go.

And so carlyreads stays.

If nothing else, I kind of hated that David Sedaris book, and I’m tired of it being the most recent post on here.

I’ll be honest – it’s not just the writing that I abandoned. I drastically slowed my reading as well, at times going weeks without picking up my Kindle. Even then, sometimes it’s just been rereading passages from Yes Please and Bossypants – a far cry from the challenge of fitting 300, 400, even 500 pages into a single week. It’s hard to not recognize your own habits, even though I’ve filled my time with a billion other things that I enjoy.

I excitedly created carlyreads three and a half years ago. I needed a personal outlet, I wanted a reminder to work towards tangible goals and I felt strongly that I should be more intentional with my time. I’ve lost some parts of that over the past couple of years – especially the excitement over running this thing – and at the very least, I’m way less well-read than I was when I was actively (carly)reading.

It’s time to get back to the basics: back to the reading, back to the writing, maybe even back to the tweeting. I’m hoping for weekly posts, but we’ll see – I’m going to practice being a little less strict in the hopes that it sticks.

No matter what this space becomes, I hope you’ll join me…again.

And, as always: happy reading!
